A friend of mine has a shaft pulled out of a R7 superquad (face cracked) that he wants to put in a different head. He wants a head similar to the Geek FS3 that has the TICN coating on the face. Outside of drilling the .335 hosel out to .350 is there a component head out there that fits this criteria? He is looking for a 10.5* square FA. He really likes the FS3 but are there any other options. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks, Gus

I can't think of any offhand. Golfsmith has done several black drivers and several with .350 hosels. I have no idea if the black/.350 ever overlapped onto the same head, if you've got any Golfsmith catalogs from the last few years that might be a good place to start.

The bad news: Golfsmith is so out of the component biz these days that that model only lasted on the market for about 20 minutes and isn't in their current catalog. It's not all that old though, so you might be able to find one somewhere.

The two all-black drivers I can recall from GS before the Blackbird were the Viper Tour Black and the Black Box Jetstream. I don't remember whether they were .335 or .350

Thanks Rick I have already checked out Alpha, Golf Works and just did Golfsmith and Hereko. I just don't think the .350 hosel driver is available any longer. It was hot for a few years but not anymore I believe. Golfworks had one also but that was 7-8 years ago. I think my buddy is out of luck unless he can find someone to drill a .335 hosel out to .350 on a Geek FS3 or any other head with the TICN coating.

No, but you can start a second thread in the "Requests for sponsors" to see if any of them have anything that meets your needs.

What model shaft is this .350 tip shaft? .350 shafts do sell on ebay, maybe not for a lot but something is better than nothing.

Another thing I would look into, is there any warranty on the Superquad head? in the past a pulled shaft may not necessarily void the TM warranty, but that could be different now. The club could be re-assembled and sent to Taylormade if it's still under warranty.

Your friend should buy a FS3 head of his choice and a shaft he wants, and get what he can for the leftover parts from the TM OR if it can be replaced under warranty sell the new replacement TM.

In the reviews it's mentioned that this is a .350 hosel head.

It's not a black finished driver head, but it's new, as long as the loft is ok with you. It's also a cheap alternative for now if the TM is not under warranty until you can get a FS3.

Thanks, it is a possibility but I think he has his heart set on something like the FS3. His TM is not under warranty and he only wants the shaft because it is the best shaft he has had in a driver. He bought another R7 used from Golfsmith to replace his broken one but when it came it was an R9 and when he called on it they did not have another R7. So he was looking for a head for the shaft. I showed him my FS3 and now he wants one but when I found out the shaft was .350 not .335 he was out of luck. Perhaps I can get him to put another shaft in an FS3. I will talk to him and see what happens. Thanks for the info. Gus

You could always try sanding down the shaft. Never a great idea, but an idea none the less.

If you can find, or do, a shaft profile of his .350 shaft, you would then be able to pretty much match it exactly with a .335 shaft. Should perform the same.


I would personally not want a customer with the closed mind. Sorry to say that. So many really nice performing shafts on the market today....he might even be surprised when he finds a better one, which I'm sure he will find some day.

Thanks Dillon I thought of that also and I guess this may be what I have to do for him. Thanks everyone for helping out here. He has a Fuji Reax stiff in does anyone know what shaft profiles close to that model. I don't have a frequency meter so I will need someone who has that answer. Gus

Call TMAG, if the face cracked they may still cover it. Hope he likes WHITE.

Not under warranty. He tried the R9 and the R11 did not like either one.
